Sunday at SXSW Interactive 2011 was another day focusing on content, starting with 4chan founder Christopher Poole‘s keynote. It was a great presentation about anonymity’s authenticity on the Internet, 4chan’s influence, and his new start-up, Canvas, a collaborative image sharing site.
Later in the day I was able to see a quick demo of Sony’s new 35 mmm camera, as well as witness another packed room for “How Brands Are Using Entertainment and Social Media,” yet another testament to the power of content for brands.
The highlight of my day was sitting in on a session called “The Art of Immersion: Tron,” featuring Douglas Macintrye of Disneyland Resort, Frank Rose from Wired, Justin Springer (producer of Tron: Legacy), and Susan Bonds of 42 Entertainment. This session was an informative look at the year of alternate reality games, real-world installations, and content created to engage an audience over a year-and-a-half prior to a film’s release.
There was some creative questions and great comments on content production and how it can help bring people to a physical attraction. Douglas Macintyre’s comments on how Disneyland is using blogs, their social media audience, and constantly-updated, quality content to bring thousands of people into their park to visit the electronic attractions.
Monday is off to a flying start, with sessions featuring a question-and-answer session with Matt Cutts from Google, Duane Forrester from Bing, and Danny Sullivan from Search Engine Land, and many more sessions on how TV and new media can create interactive narratives, TV and the web backchannel, a keynote from Felica Day, and more.
